Seagull 25th Anniversary CW Flame Maple EQ: Sounds
Like many maple-backed acoustics, this Seagull has a thin, quite demure, slightly compressed unplugged sound that isn’t very dreadnought-like in either tone or robustness. In compensation though, inter-string balance is extremely good, with a very precise, almost hi-fi like attack to notes whether in the lows or highs. Such controlled evenness may not be acoustic nirvana of the big-wellie variety, but it suits the guitar eminently well when fired up: the Quantum system lends the guitar a clear-voiced, studio-esque quality without the results sounding clinical. In fact the preamp’s EQ is rewardingly responsive for adding warmth and/or sparkle, while there’s plenty of gain on tap to dispel the notion that the guitar’s modest acoustic capabilities can’t be transformed into a muscular, relatively feedback-resistant electro performance.
