Simple, stylish and faultlessly practical, this authentic reissue of an all-time great –complete with two-band EQ and string mutes – will take you straight back to the ’70s, at a price. Review by Gareth Morgan

Verdict

Music Man has pushed the boat out with the Classic Stingray, and the result is rather splendid. In terms of both price and weight it’s right on the upper limit, but this is as close to the original Stingray as a brand-new bass is likely to get. It’s all there, from the mute-equipped string-through bridge to the simple controls and that fizzing, crunchy tone. No need to scour the known universe for a ’70s original: this one does the job.
