After the devastating Nashville floods in May last year, Gibson's factory was left in a terrible state. Many new and vintage guitars were damaged or destroyed by the consuming flood waters.

The factory has now been restored to its former glory and Gibson have seen fit to commemorate the floods by releasing the Anniversary Flood Les Paul Studio.

Described by Gibson as 'a special issue model that represents the enduring ability of the human spirit to salvage the music from the raging waters,' this new model has a special high-gloss nitrocellulose finish available in Marbelized Blue Swirl Burst, and Marbelized Green Swirl.

The finish for the recently released Firebird X was inspired by the paint swirl patterns left on the floor of the factory after the flood subsided, and you can see this model follows a similar pattern.

Other specs include a mahogany body with solid carved maple top (with tone chambers), glued-in quarter-sawn solid-mahogany neck, Tune-o-matic bridge and stud-mounted stopbar tailpiece, Grover tuners, a pair of Gibson USA pickups - a 490R in the neck position and a 498T in the bridge.

'Both are made in the image of Gibson's hallowed PAF humbucker: the 490R has vintage-wound coils and an Alnico II magnet for smooth, creamy vocal tones; the 498T is wound a little hotter, with a punchy Alnico V magnet, for screaming lead tones and gut-thumping crunch.'
