U.S. Fish and Wildlife agents suspected Gibson of smuggling illegal woods from India in order to make fretboards and have now seized stock from Gibson's Nashville factory. Woods seized included rosewood, and ebony as well as other items including travel records, shipping documents, guitars and hard drives.
Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz had denied any wrongdoing claiming the woods are all certified by the Forest Stewardship Council who promote responsible forest management.
He said, "Gibson is innocent and will fight to protect its rights. Gibson has complied with foreign laws and believes it is innocent of any wrong doing. We will fight aggressively to prove our innocence."
