Iconic bassist Donald 'Duck' Dunn has passed away aged 70
Influencial bass player Donald 'Duck' Dunn has died while on tour in Japan aged 70. According to reports Dunn died in his sleep on Sunday 13th May having performed in Tokyo at the Blue Note Club.
Bandmate Steve Cropper told the world via a statement on Facebook:
'Today I lost my best friend, the world has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live, wrote Cropper. 'Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning, May 13, in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club.'
Dunn was renowned for his worl as bassist in Booker T & The MGs who were Stax Records' house band and supported many famous acts over the years including Otis Redding and Sam & Dave.
He then continued his career as a session musician performing with the likes of Muddy Waters, Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton - He also played bass in the Blues Brothers backing band.
Dunn recieved a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2007 and was incucted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1992.
