Davey Graham's Guitar on eBay

It's over a year since the death of British acoustic guitar legend Davey Graham, and Fylde guitars are putting one of his favourite guitars up for auction to raise money for mental health charity ‘Mind' and the Vaughan Williams Library at Cecil Sharp House, both of which were close to the singer's heart. Whilst Graham was never very successful commercially, he made a profound impact on guitar music, particularly within the ‘60s folk scene - most notably with Angie (sometimes known as Anji), covered by Simon and Garfunkel on their Sounds Of Silence album, and 1965's pioneering collaboration with folk singer Shirley Collins, Folk Roots, New Routes. His groundbreaking approach influenced the playing styles of many guitarists including Jimmy Page, Paul Simon, Bert Jansch, Graham Coxon and he was recently the subject of a 2005 BBC documentary Whatever Happened To Davey Graham? Davey commissioned master-luthier Roger Bucknall to make two steel string acoustic guitars, the ‘Fylde Orsino', his main stage guitar, and the ‘Falstaff', used for recording, particularly during the making of his final album Broken Biscuits.

It is the ‘Falstaff' (pictured) that will be up for grabs along with a cd of three unreleased tunes, photographs and a letter of provenance from Davey's manager. The guitar will be displayed at a memorial concert at Cecil Sharp House on Sat 28^th November and the auction is planned for early this year. See www.fyldeguitars.com for details.
