The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) launches new part-time acoustic guitar course

The Academy Of Contemporary Music (ACM) has launched a part-time acoustic guitar course.

The course will be written and taught by leading acoustic guitarist Tristan Seume.

The ACM) in Guildford is to launch a new part-time Acoustic Guitar course in late April 2011.

The course, written and taught by internationally renowned guitarist Tristan Seume, will run across ten weeks and focus on a variety of skills and techniques essential for acoustic guitar playing.

The course is an ideal opportunity for guitar players who have a few years' experience to either enhance their acoustic playing or add this skill to their guitar repertoire.

The course is aimed at the intermediate player keen to develop the skills needed to play the songs of classic artists such as Paul Simon, Jimmy Page and Joni Mitchell as well as contemporary performers like KT Tunstall and Jack Johnson.

The course focuses on differing finger styles (including finger picking  and Travis picking), open and altered tunings, open chords, Latin guitar playing, slide guitar, classic acoustic tunes and Eric Roche-style rhythmic patterns.

Tristan has taught at guitar festivals throughout the UK and has been a guitar tutor at ACM for many years.

He is a regular techniques columnist for Guitarist magazine and is the UK demonstrator for and endorsee of Guild Guitars. Speaking about the course, Tristan said, "The acoustic guitar is more popular than ever before, which is why this course is so timely.

We'll be helping students to nail the techniques of key players from Joni Mitchell to Jose Gonzales."

Course details:

The ACM Plus Acoustic Guitar course commences on Thursday 28 April and will run from 7pm to 9pm for 10 weeks.

Some basic skills are required: knowledge of open chords is essential and some barre chord knowledge and basic strumming and finger picking ability would be beneficial.

More details on the Acoustic Guitar course and other ACM Plus part-time courses are available from the website www.acm.ac.uk. Places are limited and are offered on a first-come first-served basis.
