This day 40 years ago, Black Sabbath released their debut album and gave birth to heavy metal
40 years ago today saw the release of Black Sabbath's eponymous debut album, widely considered to be the record that spawned heavy metal. Unleashed on the world, rather fittingly on Friday 13th, the album reached number 8 in the UK charts despite its poor reception from the critics and has since been certified platinum in both the U.S. and the U.K.
