The Count
Taken from the CD Cained And Able

Hurricane State are a 4-piece rock band from the south of Manchester. The band were drawn together by a mutual love of all music, whilst harbouring an intense hatred of the apathy displayed by Britain’s current plethora of ‘rock’ bands. Hurricane State are here to deliver music played with energy, passion, feeling and power back into the British rock scene. Their inspiration is drawn from past masters: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Iron Maiden and Deep Purple, as well as present performers: Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, Audioslave and The Datsuns. Hurricane State can pull off a performance to surpass any other rock band in Britain. And that’s the way it is – so you’d better get used to it!

Taken from a demo

I'm a still unsigned indie/alternative guitarist/composer/songwriter from Odessa Ukraine. I was born in 1986 on the 7th day of February in the maritime city Odessa. At the age of 13 I started to play the guitar and realised that music is the reason that I'm livin’! I finished music school and played in a lot of bands. Now I'm workin' as a soloist and tryin' to get a contract with a record label.

Switch On/Switch Off
Taken from the website

Slowline are a three-piece band based in London featuring individuals hailing from both sides of the Atlantic. New York raised Niall is on guitar/vocals, with the UK contingent, energetic brash beat connoisseur Dave on drums and punk/funk bassist Justin ensuring slowline's influences are spread out across borders and the years.
With the current line-up forming in September 2005 the band has recently appeared on the London scene with shows at venues such as the Bull and Gate, Hope and Anchor and a recent headline spot at the Dublin Castle. Releasing a four song demo EP at the end of last year to showcase just a small part of their work, the band manage to follow their own path with music that combines melodic precision whilst cruising towards climatic chaos.
Slowline ensnare the economy of drums, bass and guitar whilst ensuring nobody has any place to hide. The band have done another batch of songs in March which compiled their second demo EP and they also have more London shows on the horizon.

Nowhere To Run
Taken from the album 'Mass Of Four'

Helium Soul have been building solid foundations on the blues and rock circuit since 2002. Though they have recently recorded their first studio album, they are essentially driven by the desire to play live and to take their sound to their increasing fan base. Press and public alike have been impressed by the energy of their live show and the quality of the material. Helium Soul are bringing their own sound, and most importantly, their own songs to a rapidly growing audience.
Writer and front man, Russ Blaber has been performing on the live music scene for several years and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall supporting B.B. King.  Keyboard player Kenny Carroll brings the best out of the Hammond A1, which is an integral part of the band and the sound. The rhythm section is comprised of the exceptionally talented Matt Dean on drums, who studied at the renowned Academy of Contemporary Music and Ad Critchfield whose bass playing brings energy and 'funk’ to the Helium Soul sound.

'I am a guitarist-composer, 33 years old, and I have lived in London for five years. I have a demo of eight instrumental tracks all composed and played by me. I hope you will appreciate the ideas and technique – I put my heart and soul in that. I have been studying all sort of music (classical, jazz, rock, blues) and improving my style all my life, playing with local bands in Italy and in London. I've been playing with artists like Sandro Giacobbe and Mark Jenkins, but working for a record company would be great. My main influences are: Steve Morse, Kansas, Eric Johnson, Malmsteen, Yes, Mike Stern, Gary Moore.I am confident my music is extremely experimental, but always melodic and easy to appreciate.'

THE GEAR: Fender Stratocaster, Twin Reverb, Boss Overdrive, a cheap acoustic guitar, Roland GR1 guitar synth (for bass, flute, trumpet, and keyboard)

SPEAK LIKE YOU MEAN IT
SPEAK LIKE YOU MEAN IT

THE STORY SO FAR: Paul “Pazza” Godfrey (Bass player from the Ozric Tentacles) and Johnny Morgan (drummer with Senser and Moke) had been working informally with singer/songwriter (and guitarist) Paul Goldsmith for a number of years and in the Summer of 2003 decided the time was right to record an EP.
While rehearsing at Scream Studios in London they became friends with violinist Jenny Newton and the acoustic driven, uplifting sound of “WAKE” was formed. In a short space of time they had recorded 14 songs and picked an initial 6 for the first EP.
After playing a series of gigs to help promote the music, towards the end of 2004 the band decided to work on their first album.
Now playing a series of acoustic and electric live shows delivering a beautiful but haunting sound capped with great melodies and hooks. As one promoter recently said after a show in central London, Wake live is like, “They are playing their CD through the PA”, which is a great testament to the band’s ability.
‘WAKE” have also just shot a video, for the song ‘Feeling Undone’, which has received rave reviews by all who have seen it. Check it out at the website below.
The debut album, titled “Speak like You Mean It “ is now available to buy at their website www.wakeband.co.uk

Woman Of Thorns
Taken from the demo 'When Snails Attack'

When Snails Attack is comprised of Steve Davies. The music is inspired by rock, jazz, blues and the work of a misunderstood painter from Jupiter by name of Zippo 3. No thought whatsoever was given to commerciality during the recording of these tracks. It's just cool, guitar-based grooves from the blue planet for all you broad-minded folk out there who don't give a shit for the hit parade.

'COMEG have the sheer brilliance that helped drive David Bowie to world stardom.' - Demoland.com. 'The melodic sweetness of McCartney, the clever, edgy lyrics of Lennon, and the upfront sexuality of the Stones. All wrapped in a production style that reminds me of Jeff Lynne / ELO. What's not to love?' - Norm Bowler, www.godsofmusic.com

Click to downloadMiraje
Thunder Lightning Bolt

"Rock Music is played by Rock Fans. Now allow me to contradict this statement. Drawing inspiration from acts such as The Streets and The Chemical Brothers, the line from rock fan to rock music isn't so clear in this case. Virtuoso guitar driven rock is Miraje's forté, blending classical instrumentation with power metal.
Contradiction would seem to be a running theme in this band, the very fact that it is a band, yet it is essentially the brainchild of one man. That man would be Ben Teacher, who writes, composes and produces all of Miraje's material to make one person sound like a band. For this to have been completed, vocals were supplied by Sandra Tuduwage.
So, we assumed it was a band... It would also be fair to assume that a guitarist has two hands, right? Ben Teacher was born with the disability of having one hand, yet he has taught him to play four instruments above the standard of the average musician. Considering all of the above, 'what you see is what you get' may well not be the case."

Mind On A Girl
Taken from a demo

“I am 19 and have been playing guitar about 10 or 11 years. I thought it was about time I stopped writing songs in the hope of being brave enough to get someone else to sing them, and just record the buggers! I record in my bedroom on a four track digital Zoom recorder and a Zoom drum machine. Creating the backing tracks for songs has been the most fun I've had with guitar, both frustrating and rewarding. In terms of subject matter, I find songs hard to write, and often cringe at lyrics I have written, but I guess that's all part of the process and I'll get over it! I am generally very shy, not so much at performing, but in sharing my own songs with closer friends and family, so relatively few people will ever have heard my songs, but that's something I'm trying to get round to by performing them live.”

Click to downloadGentlemen Of Largesse
Favourite Fish
Taken from demo

Gentlemen of Largesse have peculiar twisted tunes, songs of bizarre muddled thoughts and fish, and little regard for a target audience, creating a unique sound, a curious oddity inviting you into their world – a world dark with beautiful moisture, a world of both misery and merriment. They wish to entice you into this world, to share with them, to mingle like insects, but not beetles as they’re quite obviously evil. Enter this world and you may feel slightly uneasy, perhaps a little queasy, but soon a sense of wellbeing will overcome you like a big, big cloud of happy. So, moist goodness and creepy pleasure for one and all as brought to you by Gentlemen of Largesse, a band that simply must be heard. Enjoy.

Next gig: The Garage in Highbury & Islington, London, on 27th August.

Click to downloadThe Family Trait
Majorca '86
Taken from 3-track demo

"London's 'The Family Trait' write music that is unsure of its dimensions.  Their themes owe as much to 1970s sitcoms as they do Western epics. But please do not misunderstand; the songs offer the listener something considerably more substantial than a thin slice of British miserablism or a quick knees-up. They may, one day, be famous, or perhaps destined never to be heard.  Either way, the band's 'Majorca '86' is the only time you will hear a wistful suburban sigh so elegantly wrestled from a beery Mediterranean belch."

"Trans-Atlantic collaboration between guitarist/bassist Gary Franklin (Knivsta, Sweden), Chicago-based drummer Dan Van Schindel and keyboard player Ron Caruana from Florida. Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, we can write and record together without small things like oceans getting in the way too much! The JackoffsThe Jackoffs
High Friends In Low Places
Taken from 5-track EP High Friends In Low Places

You already know them. They are the haggard, handsome ones propping up the bar that time forgot. They are drinking now and paying later, telling white lies about their black eyes, cursing the one that got away and spinning whiskey fibs about the one they're gonna fall in love with today. They are tipping their hat to rock 'n' roll's old ways and sneering at today's flame-painted clichés. They are the old dogs that don't wanna learn the new tricks. They are high friends in low places, stoned out freaks and Motorheadcases. The Jackoffs are currently doing the rounds of London's rock'n'roll watering hell-holes and will play anywhere, with anyone.

Taken from 6-track CD Tinj

'Fascinating twin-acoustic guitar soundscapes' was one description of the Funxster Foundation's music. They are Mark Duxbury and Steve Catlin. Their goal, using only two acoustic guitars, is to paint vistas, evoke emotions and inspire the imagination. To best capture the moment, both guitars are recorded simoultaneously - no overdubs!
